Behind the Scenes: What to Expect at “It’s Our Time” (Oct 17–22)

When two creative paths cross, extraordinary things can happen.

Starting Saturday, October 17, photographer Natalia Matelska and I are opening our joint exhibition, “It’s Our Time,” at Vällingby Folkets Hus in Stockholm.

Beyond brushstrokes and camera lenses, this exhibition was born from a shared life journey. We are both mothers. We know the daily pull between caregiving, routine, and practical responsibilities. But we also felt a creative urge too powerful to ignore. We made a conscious decision to listen to our inner voice, pursue our creative dreams, and dedicate time to our work.

“It’s Our Time” is the tangible result of that courage.

Nature as Our Mirror: Freedom, Resilience, and Stillness

For both of us, nature is not just a backdrop; it is an essential part of how we understand existence.

Natalia’s photography possesses a mesmerizing quality that draws you into deep contemplation. Her lens captures the quiet poetry of the physical world, creating space where your thoughts can simply expand and settle.

My oil paintings approach nature through the lens of human experience. Working with rich layers and expressive color, my canvases explore existence, resilience, and the liberating feeling of inner freedom.

Together, the exhibition features 30 original works—around 15 oil paintings and 15 fine art photographs—curated to form an open, uplifting conversation across the gallery walls. On top of that there will be also two textile pieces that were designed by Natalia.

A First Look: Two Featured Works in Dialogue

1.Fine Art Photography: Blue-Calm (Natalia Matelska)

In Blue-Calm, Natalia captures a lone cloud catching the golden warmth of evening light against an endless, fading sky. Encased in a custom, deep-slate ornate frame, the piece becomes an intimate sculptural window. It invites the viewer to pause, breathe, and lose themselves in quiet reflection

2.Oil on Canvas: Suspended (Diana Renkligumus)

Painted with sweeping brushwork in a luminous palette of rose, lilac, and sky blue, this piece explores surrender and quiet strength. The figure suspended in clouds reflects that pivotal moment when you let go of resistance and choose to elevate yourself—an anthem of personal freedom.
